The Portolá Expedition of 1769 camped close to the mouth of Pilarcitos Creek on October 28 and 29. Portolá himself was very ill.

This landmark is not marked by a plaque. On October 11, 2005, Sharon and I hiked along the bottom section of Pilarcitos Creek during our short Half Moon Bay State Park hike.
